Spend a cosy November morning getting creative as we paint a beautiful collection of handmade Christmas cards, combining loose watercolour, modern brush calligraphy and delicate gold details.

In this guided, follow-along workshop, we'll create three festive designs inspired by the simple pleasures of the season: a classic Christmas wreath, a cosy orange and cinnamon stick design, and a charming Christmas tree finished with shimmering gold accents.

I'll guide you through each design step by step, sharing techniques for creating expressive watercolour illustrations, combining seasonal colours and adding elegant hand lettering to bring each card to life. We'll explore how to layer watercolour, add delicate details and incorporate a touch of gold for a little extra festive sparkle.

DURING THE WORKSHOP, WE'LL EXPLORE:

✦ Creating a festive colour palette inspired by traditional Christmas greens, warm spices and seasonal touches

✦ Painting loose watercolour illustrations, from leafy wreaths to oranges, cinnamon sticks and Christmas trees

✦ Layering watercolour to build depth, texture and interest while keeping your paintings fresh and light

✦ Incorporating modern brush calligraphy to add beautiful lettering to your designs

✦ Finishing each card with delicate gold details for an extra touch of festive magic

This workshop is ideal for those who already have a basic understanding of watercolour painting and lettering and would like to develop their skills while creating something seasonal. I'll guide you through each design in a relaxed and supportive way, sharing plenty of tips and techniques along the way.

By the end of the session, you'll have three beautiful handmade Christmas cards ready to send to loved ones, along with fresh inspiration and ideas for creating your own festive artwork.

TOOLS YOU’LL NEED FOR THIS CLASS:
Watercolours - you can use any paints you like. I love this Winsor and Newton Cotman set. You can also get a smaller set - I love this one (but I’d recommend buying white colour too as a separate tube). You can also use watercolour pans instead of tubes from the same brand.

Watercolour paper - try to go for good quality paper, 250 - 300gsm weight if possible. I love this A4 Winsor and Newton paper pad.

Brushes - I recommend having a round pointed brush + square or filbert brush for this session. I love using size 8 or 10 for loose florals. This is my all time favourite round brush - you’ll be able to paint most elements in this size.

A pencil, eraser and ruler
Paper towel
A mixing palette - plastic or ceramic.

Fineliner - Unipin in size 0.8

Gold watercolours to add a bit of sparkle (optional) - I love Coliro Pearlcolours but any other ones will be ok too.
